Dean’s Message

The world is changing. Technological advancements, climate change, peak oil, demographic shifts, rapid urbanization, globalization, and other major forces assure that good design, planning and preservation practice will be valued commodities far as we are able to see into the future. The College of Environment and Design (CED) at the University of Georgia will lead the way in educating new generations of landscape architects, planners, and historic preservationists well equipped to envision a better tomorrow in the wake of those changes.

The Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) Program is the largest program in the United States with a heritage of excellence dating back to 1928. Over the past five years, Design Intelligence has consistently ranked the Master of Landscape Architecture Program and the BLA within the top five programs in the nation. The Master of Historic Preservation Program annually attracts students from across the globe to study the preservation of buildings, sites, and cultural landscapes.

Our students gain practical experience through real world projects conducted in conjunction with the Public Service and Outreach wing of the college. Many of our students also elect to participate in the nationally renowned Environmental Ethics Certificate program administered by the college. Our international study opportunities include excellent programs and rewarding experiences in Costa Rica, Italy, and Croatia.

Finally, the College of Environment and Design is a home away from home for our students. The studio environment is unique among all teaching settings and leads to strong friendships and lifetime associations. The faculty and staff in the CED nurture student growth and development through quality teaching and outstanding professionalism.
