MLA Admissions Statistics

With limited seats available in each entering class, the competition to enter the Master of Landscape Architecture program is very keen. In the evaluation of applicants, the Admissions Committee takes all possible information into account and attempts to reach a full understanding of each applicant’s potential strengths. Because of the different combinations of strengths that individual candidates offer, there are no fixed quantitative standards that guarantee admission or rejection. However, some characteristics of admitted students can be interpreted from admissions decisions in recent years.
Almost all admitted applicants have 500 or higher on both the quantitative and verbal portions of the GRE; the average total GRE score (math + verbal) averages 1200. Almost all admitted applicants have 3.0 or higher grade point average; the average is about 3.6. Even for applicants with these characteristics, admission is competitive. Students admitted with a relatively low GRE score or GPA have other extraordinary strengths to contribute to advanced study, the landscape architectural field, or productive professional work in society. As previously noted, no exact formula exists for being invited into the program.
For international students, strong English language ability is crucial to success. On the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), admitted applicants always score over 800. Scores on the verbal portion of the GRE must also reflect a clear understanding of the English language.
In consideration of the highly competitive admissions process at the University of Georgia, all applicants are advised to apply to a number of MLA programs.
