Technology Requirements
Graduate students at the College of Environment and Design will be expected to complete a number of computing-intensive projects. It is in every student's best interests to be able to work on these projects whether they are on campus or not. The following suggestions describe the minimum hardware and software required to easily complete design projects on a personal computer.
- Intel 1.73Ghz or higher Mobile Core Duo or AMD equivalent
- 2 GB RAM
- 80 GB Hard Drive
- DVD rewritable drive
- 256 MB 3D accelerated graphics card
- 15" display (17" highly recommended)
- 802.11g wireless card
- optical mouse
- Windows XP Professional * (not XP home) or Windows Vista*
- Microsoft Office***
- AutoCAD (express tools optional)***
- Adobe Creative Suite***
- Antivirus Software**
- Sketchup (optional)***
- 1 GB USB Flash drive (optional external hard drive)
- 4 megapixel digital camera (optional)
* Windows is required to connect to the College's wireless network. Wireless network support will not be available for computers using another operating system.
** The University offers F-Secure Antivirus software for free.

| Go to the EMSD website and click on the login button. Your username and password is your UGA MyID. This site allows you to purchase a single copy of the various applications. The software is then shipped to you via UPS. This is for your personal use on your own computer. There is no time limit and the license does not expire. | ||

Once you have joined, you can download free 14-month licenses of many Autodesk programs, as well as tutorials, support, and more.
