About the Director

René D. Shoemaker has been the Director of the Owens Library at the School of Environmental Design (SED) since 1995. She has been the librarian for the School of Environmental Design since September 1993. She received a Masters of Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelors of Fine Art from the University of Georgia.
The School of Environmental Design merged with the Institute of Ecology in 2001 to form the College of Environment & Design. René is on the Communications Transition Team for the new College.
René is the CED librarian, archivist, and gallery director. She is adjunct librarian to the UGA Libraries and is a member of the University Council Libraries Committee. She is a member of the UGA Strategic Communications Group and is co-chair of the Georgia Library Association Records Committee, the Special Libraries/Information Services Division, and the Professional Development Interest Group.
René participated in the UGA Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy during the summer of 1998. She organized and cataloged the library collection the Program houses in Cortona.
