CED Has Moved to Jackson Street!
![]()
What’s New?
As of August 1, 2012, some of the programs and services of the College of Environment and Design (CED) are now located at 285 South Jackson Street.
The mid-century, former visual arts building, has been rededicated as the College of Environment & Design’s exciting, sustainably rehabilitated, new home and includes Administrative Offices, Owens Library, Circle Gallery, and the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program.
What Stays the Same?
CED graduate programs remain in their current locations of Denmark Hall (MLA and MHP) and Tanner (MEPD). The Center for Community Design & Preservation continues operation out of the Broad Street Studios. The Founders Memorial Garden Complex remains under the stewardship of CED, and serves as offices for faculty emeriti and the Environmental Ethics Certificate Program.
CED’s Future
A campaign has commenced to raise funds for an additional wing to our new home. Our overall goal is $20 million for sustainable brick and mortar construction, as well as to support professorships and other educational enhancements for students in keeping our programs and facilities as innovative and advanced as possible. The campaign begins with naming opportunities in the newly rehabilitated building, in the future wing, as well as opportunities in Denmark Hall where many of our alumni were taught.
The purpose for the addition is to house all of CED’s academic programs in the Environment & Design Building (EDB) on Jackson Street. Having all programs in one house will foster cross-disciplinary work as well as a sense of community, collaboration and ingenuity. It will make us the most outstanding example of a College of Environment & Design in the State of Georgia, and potentially in the nation. Denmark Hall will be repurposed for CED’s Cultural Landscape Laboratory and other research and design labs for various classes. The Founders Memorial Garden Complex will also be retained and managed by the college in perpetuity for historic preservation, alumni events and educational purposes.
