Charrette participation

Any student enrolled in the College of Environment and Design can participate in a charrette. Students not in the CED should contact Pratt Cassity to obtain permission to participate. CED faculty are encouraged to attend. One to three faculty members usually participate per charrette. Charrettes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Charrettes can be worth course credit in HIPR 4680\6680: Community Design Charrettes: An Innovative Course in Community Planning. This course is worth three credit-hours.

The purpose of the course is to provide students a real-world opportunity to work side-by-side with faculty and local decision-makers. The course will require students to attend two charrettes in a 12-month period while registered for classes at UGA. Lectures will precede or follow each charrette experience. (Lectures are mandatory only for the specific charrette on which the student is participating.) Students will learn facilitation skills, how to develop design guidelines and how to use national standards to complete façade rehabilitations.

Each charrette will be a two- to four-day experience in a small Georgia town, coastal community or a neighborhood in an urban area. Transportation costs will be covered and orientation lectures will be scheduled for times that will not conflict with other classes.

To register for this course see your program advisor. Additional questions? Please contact Pratt Cassity or Megan Zeigler.
