Students enrolled in the summer HIPR 4000/6000 Introduction to Historic Preservation class had an opportunity to explore a wide variety of historic resources at the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation’s Southwest Atlanta Expedition on Saturday, June 12. They joined more than 200 preservationists at over 20 sites that included houses, industrial buildings, parks and academic institutions. The Expedition highlighted a number of affordable, historic neighborhoods beginning to experience a resurgence with the development of the Atlanta Beltline. Rehabilitation of historic buildings and new development have brought beneficial changes to the area along with the threat of displacement for some long-time residents. Professor James Reap encouraged the class to examine their field study experience in the context of their readings and class discussions.

The Expedition was the subject of a column by Maria Saporta in the online Saporta Report.
